The details of the UK’s new digital economy bill were released last month. Among other clauses, it contains provisions allowing ISPs to disconnect users found to be violating copyright laws either by filesharing or by downloading content. However, according to internet law expert professor Lilian Edwards, this might create a conflict with the existing EU laws.

The provisions are meant to discourage internet copyright infringement by allowing the ISPs to disconnect repeated offenders. However, the mobile broadband providers have expressed their inability to track these offenders using mobile connections due to the lack of a traceable IP address. Professor Edwards takes the point further, saying that the law will result in no one being able to offer a free internet connection, as is currently available in public places like hotels and cafes.

According to professor Edwards, the bill makes the network service liable for copyright infringements that occur on the network. Since the bill allows for action to be taken against those who allow others to use a network for the purpose of infringing on the copyrights of another, hotels and cafes would be liable for disconnection if any patron should download or share copyrighted content illegally. These places would thus be forced to close down their free WiFi services.

The same also applies to an unsecured WiFi home connection if a neighbour downloads content he/she is not supposed to.

According to the professor, EU’s E-Commerce directive which was passed into UK law as E-Commerce Regulations states that network providers are not liable for illegal actions on their networks provided they are unaware of these actions. This therefore is in direct conflict with the provisions of the UK law.

Optometrists require a lot more than professional knowledge, more important even than all their training and experience; because what they really are in demand of first and foremost is sure to be specialist equipment to aid them in producing answers as rapidly and accurately as possible. Let’s scrutinize three essential pieces of equipment, focusing on diagnosis, the comfort of your patients, and storage, and key points to bear in mind in purchasing each - whether they’re used, new, remanufactured or simply refurbished. Available in multiple styles including the applanation, non-contact, dynamic contour, pocket, and handheld disposable model, the tonometer is needed to measure intraocular pressure. You can opt to use any particular style or use an assortment of models to meet your needs. The tonometers you elect to deploy must be top quality. This kind of optometric equipment makes for a major difference to diagnosis, in particular when both optimal accuracy and ease of use are ascertained.

The irritation created by a chair which doesn’t support a patient in the position you want is legendary in the field. Therefore, picking out the best examination stools is just as much about being comfortable as about utility. Fully adjustable exam chairs are capable of raising and lowering even the tallest patient to the ideal height. The patient must be supported by his examination chair to make his exam as comfortable as possible. This becomes especially essential for more in-depth visits.

When you’re working, the last thing you want to do is to have to grapple with your optometry equipment and devices. Your practice should, therefore, profit greatly from a good set of equipment cabinets. Treatment cabinets with the most convenient and efficient storage possible typically feature secure locks, a drawer for those hard-to-store supplies, leveling glides to assist with uneven floors and flexible shelving. You should also make sure to buy a cabinet in a size that will fit into your office space without causing difficulty. Your capacity to perform at your job is determined partly by the equipment you employ, such as your choice of examination chair, treatment cabinet and tonometer. So be certain of your precise needs (tip: why not make a list?) before beginning your equipment purchases. Imprecise or unergonomic tools will be guaranteed to hamper your workflow; but the less problematic to use and the more ergonomic your equipment, the better you should perform. Make the right choice, and you’ll find yourself positively amazed by how easy this will make the work in your practice!

To summarize - the tools you decide on can have a dramatic impact on your performance in your job, and, let’s not forget, on the advancement of your overall practice.

Social networking websites such as MySpace and Facebook are teaming up with mobile phone companies to launch the next step in online social networking: mobile social networking. Reuters1 reports that many telecommunication companies see partnerships with social networking sites like MySpace as an excellent launching pad for their own products. This is because “the spontaneous and personal nature of much of that communication lends itself perfectly to the mobile phone”2. Reuters reports that there has been much hype at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona with regards to the future of mobile phone social networking services.

It cannot be doubted that there is an enormous potential in launching social networking sites like MySpace onto mobile phones. The founder of MySpace, Chris de Wolfe, in an interview with the BBC revealed that Facebook is in danger of being usurped by another social networking site within a few years if it does not update its mobile technology. There is much logic to this argument because MySpace revealed that over the past year, mobile users of the site have jumped 400% from the previous year. Currently, there are 20 million MySpace users that use the technology via their mobile phones and changing MySpace Layouts from mobile application. Juniper Research indicates by 2012 there will be approximately 600 million people across the globe that will access their accounts via their cell phones. This figure has been aided by the development of Internet phones such as the iPhone. Given this potential for an increase in the number of people who use social networking sites via their cell phones, it should be no surprise that leading websites like MySpace are already striking up partnerships with telecommunication companies. Reuters reports that MySpace will partner up with Nokia and Palm who will adapt some handsets so that they are more MySpace friendly.

Such schemes appear to be successful so far. The Facebook phone, Social Mobile by INQ, won handset of the year at the Mobile World Congress held in Barcelona. Part of the success of these mobile phone partnerships stems from the fact that phones such as the iPhone have made uploading photos simple and fun rather than a chore. The reputation of the iPhone as a fun, social device makes modern mobile phones the perfect launching pad for social networking sites like MySpace.

Reuters reports that mobile phone companies from Nokia to Movidia are working hard to develop social networking devices which are mobile friendly. For example, Movidia has developed a processor which allows users to edit the video after it has been filmed. This feature will soon be released to users for testing. Sean Michael, CEO of Movidia said that this technology has attracted much interest from Japanese and Korean phone makers.

With the advent of social mobile technology, there is an enormous potential for online social networking sites to increase their revenue. MySpace, which is built solely to raise revenue through advertising already has many ideas on how to exploit this new technology.

Are you thinking of getting into VoIP? Do you have trouble understanding all the related terms? Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) technology is being tipped as the technology that will rock the telecoms industry. Voice over IP digitises the sound of a human voice so that it can be routed through the Internet. You can now make VoIP calls that cost a tiny amount of calls made through a standard line. It is revolutionizing the way that people communicate.

However, as more often than not happens with new technologies, it is usually hard to make sense of what all the new lingo and confusing terms mean. As a consequence of this this article will try and explain the technical jargon that you will encounter. So let’s get started on deciphering some of the jargon

? Bit rate: This is the speed at which data moves across the Internet. The term can also be used as a measure of the speed of an Internet connection which is often quantified in kilobits or megabits per second.

? Broadband: This is a generic term for high speed Internet over cable or ADSL

? IP: This stands for Internet Protocol It is the standard that underpins all services on the Internet.

? Router: This is networking hardware device that “steers” data across a network or across the Internet. A router is needed to share an Internet connection between multiple devices

? Switch: A piece of equipment that a phone company can use to connect calls between subscribers It is also used by businesses to connect their internal extensions as well as outside lines which are also known as private branch exchange (PBX)

Our aim is by explaining and simplifying some of the jargon that surrounds the VoIP services this article should help make clear what VoIP is about and the elements that are involved. Find the service that is right for you. Join the VoIP revolution and start enjoying cheap calls and other cool services!

In my opinion gaming notebooks have lost their once sustained niche title. I recall when they were not so widespread. Before the lack of sales alleviated by the profit margins. I’m pretty sure everyone would have liked to have possessed one however couldn’t actually justify it. Everybody reckoned they were the best laptop computers and justifiably so. Having said that the vast number of us probably didn’t buy laptop computers of this kind because of the cost. As the big computer companies appreciate the potential revenues in gaming portables, the business is transforming.

I reckon they would class it as a premium portable and make large amounts of profit on these particularly with their economies of scale. This can be one of the few money generating products they have as they make tiny amounts on the majority of others due to the massive competition. Persuading people to buy laptop computers is kinda simple for larger companies. In my opinion this would possibly ruin smaller companies if they do not differentiate their usp. I say this due to the fact that the technology which was once premium and high priced is now the norm. I reckon buying from a familiar brand additionally provides the perception of added value.

I guess they surely are introducing a couple of the best laptop computers out to buy. Still though, for the local companies this should turn out to be positive. Consumers like the service to configure because they can specify what’s most valuable to them. These types of purchasers typically are well educated in the technology and are able to compare part for part. If you’re buying the laptop for gaming then certainly the speed matters the most priority. Plainly what’s taking place here could benefit us in the long haul. The competitiveness between the big manufacturers should drive prices down as they seek to distinguish from one another. Who can possibly envisage what will take place. I’m in fact not that sure. New notebook computers are continuously coming out and these new models usually demand premium prices. We will find out what we can look forward to from the gaming laptop sectors large players.

Technology Tips + More29 Jun 2008 11:14 am

The laptop computer trade has gone from strength to strength recently. I am concerned that like last year we will have issues getting our hands on the latest technology too. It looks like once there are pending orders those will only grow because demand for laptops is not diminishing at all. The technology is progressing in all directions simultaneously as well.

An increasing number of consumers are purchasing notebooks for gaming these days. You can actually get a good spec for your cash these days because even the high end technology is sliding into the mass market area very quickly. Gaming frame rates on notebooks is pretty adequate considering the factors at play so if you require portability they give a good alternative. Past obstactles with giant, hot notebooks for gaming are disssapearing and new thinner, attractive products are coming out. Still there is a vast difference between the speed of notebooks and desktops however desktop computers are more roomy to allow for unique cooling and airflow that all help. Everyone always wants to squeeze stupid amounts of speed from small packages so I would expect thats where gaming notebooks are headed.

I feel need for custom notebooks will always be here. The advantage with some custom notebooks is that you get good third party components put in them. You can usually save cash on components you don’t want by configuring the system to your needs. The large number of laptops are configured for the modest consumer which means you may not find what you’re looking for. Custom notebooks allow a solution to this. Just like premade notebooks there are a number of of resellers providing custom notebooks all with a unique selling point or improved customer sevice. Because of this consumers will allow the well known brand name.

I cannot wait to see what laptops come out next. Simple ultra mobiles are the popular trend. Its crazy how a smart laptop has constructed a new market. I feel the market would prefer to see larger notebooks that weigh a ton less than todays technology. If we ignore processing speed I’m certaiin we would see those versions of notebooks today. We’re witnessing slicker gaming notebooks now and it looks this is set to continue. Laptops get released every year and these budget portables surely made a number of manufactures change their plans.

I would recommend these if you are after the best laptops.

It attacks your computer like the South American army ant. Tiny, harmless looking critters by themselves, in larger numbers they can cover, kill and dissolve a full grown cow in a matter of hours.

Okay, maybe not exactly like that. But, wood shop and machine shop owners are experiencing the devastating effect manufacturing dust can have inside their shop computers. And they are looking for answers.

It doesn’t take much to ruin your day, especially, when metallic dust meets sensitive electronic components. Electricity chooses to travel in the shortest route possible, and little bridges of metal dust make great short cuts. Zap! WRRrrrrrr…

And wood dust makes a great insulating blanket. That’s okay if you’re lost in a big wood bin and freezing to death, but to a hard working computer it can be bad news. Heat sinks and fans attempt to dissipate the heat from within your computer, but a layer of dust can reduce or prevent this transfer of heat. Also, computer fans can malfunction when dust and grime are allowed to build up. Things heat up. Computers die. Data is lost. Business suffers.

Okay, what’s the answer then? How do you protect your computer from dust?

The actions you are willing and able to take to protect your computer equipment from dust depend on a large number of individual circumstances. Regardless of your situation, I recommend you take a three-front defensive position and optimize for each of the following areas:

• Computer room environment

• Protective computer dust barriers

• Computer maintenance

Let’s look at each of these areas individually.

Computer Room Environment

Control the environmental conditions surrounding your computers. The ideal solution would be to keep your computers and monitors in a clean, climate controlled computer room. In other words, take them out of the danger area. Of course, this is unrealistic or undesirable to many shop owners, who want, or need the computers to operate in the immediate work area.

So what then? Do what you can to control the dust and air pollutants in the shop. Use and maintain dust collectors for woodworking machines and a ventilation system for the shop area. And, if you can’t move the computers out of the shop, try to move them across the room, away from welding, grinding or direct contact with billowing sander dust.

Protective Computer Dust Barriers

These include computer dust covers, dust filters, computer dust bags, and computer enclosures. Each has its advantages and limitations as described below. Determine which option is the best solution for you.

Standard computer covers are made by a number of manufacturers. Usually plastic or vinyl, they are cheap, but effective in keeping dust off your computers and monitors. However, they may only be used while your computer equipment is shut down. And, you must remember to put them on. Every day. In other words, they are almost useless in a busy shop.

Computer filters, on the other hand may be used while the computer is running. Also very cheap, these small pieces of loose mesh material are placed over fan air intakes in the computer case to remove dust from incoming air. Some have experimented with using panty hose, Brillo® Pads and other household items with some success. The main drawback with computer filters is their small surface area. They clog up quickly in dusty areas and must be cleaned, or changed frequently to allow the unimpeded flow of cool air into the computer case. Another drawback is that they leave other openings in the computer case unprotected, allowing fine dust to infiltrate the CD ROM drives, floppy drives and other small openings.

Relatively new on the scene, computer dust bags are a combination computer cover and computer filter. Designed for the harsh, dusty and smoky conditions inherent to wood shops and machine shops, these innovative covers entirely encase the computer processor or monitor at all times, allowing the entire surface of the bag to act as a huge dust filter to remove dust from incoming air. Monitor dust bags have a see-through, anti-static front to allow a clear screen view, and are very effective in keeping dust, wood chips and other debris out of the cooling vents. At around $20 or less, the recommended life-span of the computer dust bag is 3-12 months, depending on the level of dust in the shop. A possible drawback to using the computer dust bag is reduced access to CD and floppy drives. However, it is possible to use these drives if you cut a hole in the dust bag and cover it with a door flap, which is included with the bag. You may also have to cut an access slot to use your USB ports.

Finally, computer enclosures are typically metal or wood, box-like cabinets which your computer processor and monitor are placed in to protect them from the surrounding environment. A variety of fan and filter combinations introduce fresh air into the enclosure. Computer enclosures have the added advantage of protecting your equipment from blunt force trauma, such as a falling 2×4, chemical splashes and other things harmful to your computer. Filters must be changed regularly. Disadvantages include high price, greater amount of space required, and filter maintenance.

Computer Maintenance

Finally, the third part of a sound computer dust protection strategy is computer maintenance. Yes, that means cleaning. Does that scare you? It’s easier than you think. You don’t have to buy all kinds of expensive tools and cleaning agents, and no heavy scrubbing or complicated disassembly is needed. The most important thing is to maintain a regular computer cleaning schedule. It may be as simple as opening the computer case once every three months to blow out the dust. Educate yourself on the computer cleaning basics and decide the right course of action for yourself. Turning Problems Into Possibilities
by Alan Tutt
http://www.KeysToPower.com

Many times, a problem is an indication that there is something we must learn. Other times, a problem is simply an outworking of a previous use of Power that was directed through a negative channel. In the Keys To Power, there are a couple of things we can do depending on which situation we are faced with.

Most of us are content to keep things the way they are until there is a problem. This is fine, and there is no reason to change this (unless it becomes a problem, that is). When we are faced with a problem, one of the things we must consider is whether the problem is the result of the way we’ve been doing things. If it is the result of our pattern of action or inaction, then we must change our patterns if we wish to avoid having the same problem in the future. If the problem is not a direct result of what we’ve been doing (or not doing), then all we have to do is deal with the issue at hand and be done with it. This is how most of us are used to dealing with problems.

In the Keys To Power system, we recognize that everything that we experience is a direct result of our pattern of action or inaction. There is absolutely nothing that we can say was purely chance or the fault of someone other than ourselves. Yes, we are directly responsible if there is an earthquake that destroys our house, and we are also responsible for the idiot on the road that cuts us off and causes us to run off the road.

While this may seem harsh and unforgiving at first, it becomes extremely liberating once you learn about the Power that you control and direct. If you are alive, then the Universal Power of Life flows through you. This Power picks up the essence of your thoughts and feelings and proceeds out into your world to create experiences based on those thoughts and feelings. And once you learn to control your thoughts and feelings, you are able to control what that Power creates in your world.

Let me describe how problems get created. Something happens that you are not happy with. Let’s say that your boss promotes someone else into a position that you wanted. Most people will react to this with a feeling of frustration, and some thoughts will be entertained that suggests that other people get things we ourselves should be getting. Even though this is a reaction to something that has already happened, the thoughts and feelings still direct Power to create future events. Power picks up the feeling of frustration and the thoughts of unfairness and goes out into the world to create an experience.

The amount of Power working to create this experience will depend on how strong the thoughts and feelings were that were entertained, and how long they were focused upon. If there was not much energy put into them, then there will be very little Power to create a similar experience. If these things were dwelt upon for days and weeks with a severe intensity, then there will be a huge amount of Power looking to create a catastrophy. (Don’t imagine this too vividly. You don’t want to create this for yourself.) With only a little Power directed towards frustration, only little experiences will reflect this feeling. With a great deal of Power directed towards unfairness, a person could end up being sued in court with false evidence!

But here’s the reason that this relationship is not as clear as it should be: every day you focus on so many different things, some good and others not so good. Power is directed in many different directions to create a wide variety of experiences. And in turn, this wide variety of experiences will incite an equally wide variety of thoughts and feelings, which in turn direct Power to create an equally wide variety of experiences. A complete circle of cause and effect. Imagine what life would be like if you only thought and felt positive things! Power would only create good things for you, which will incite only positive thoughts and feelings, which will only create good things, and on and on along positive channels.

I’ve had many students who started learning about the Power they control with their minds and started working to direct that Power towards positive ends. And then a few days, or even a couple of weeks later, some major problem comes up and they wonder why. With all the positive Power they released into the world, how could a problem of such magnitude possibly happen? The answer is simple, although not always accepted. At the point where these students started focusing on positive uses for Power, they had already released enough Power directed negatively to create the problems that came up. Some students give up at this point, feeling that they could never become successful in directing Power (a feeling that will create experiences that will reflect this idea). In fact, if they had persisted, the negatively directed Power they had previously released would eventually work itself out and there would be no more to create any problems whatsoever!

So how can we actually use this information? Quite simply in fact. Recognizing that your thoughts and feelings will direct Power to creating your experiences, you can work to control your them to reflect only what you want to experience. This is a process that takes time, and you won’t be able to eliminate all negativity from your life overnight, but it can happen. At one time, I had a very strong habit of getting into angry moods which would be very intense and last for hours at a time. Needless to say, I had a lot of problems in my life.

After trying various methods to gain control over my anger, I found the best method was to simply take time and cultivate the feelings of love, peace, and happiness. I would schedule a time period of about a half an hour to a full hour and sit and think about what these feelings were like. If I tried to remember when I had felt these feelings, I would end up remembering something that triggered more anger, so I ended up focusing strictly on the feelings I wanted separate from any event or experience.

This method proved to be amazingly effective! Not only did I start to feel better within a couple of days, but within the week I was already gaining control over my mind and emotions. One month later and I was reacting to life events with a completely new pattern. And over time, I have learned that the change in the way I reacted to things has completely my “bad luck” into “good luck”. Now, instead of everything going wrong and the good things going to other people, everything goes much better and I get more than my share of good things.

While not all of my students have chosen to work with this method of controlling thoughts and feelings, those who have tried it have found similar results. Not only do they feel much better about life and find that life reacts by giving them more good things, but they also find that they can focus their minds on the things they want in such a way as to automatically attract whatever it is that they desire! They have found that they can specify exactly what they want instead of just a general concept of life experiences!

And this is true Power. To decide what you want and to get it, without undue effort, without strain and struggle, and without worry that it may not happen. With the Keys To Power, you know that anything you want will be yours!

The only other thing to keep in mind when problems surface is this: there is always more to learn. If something is not responding the way you expect it to, then there is more information you need in order to get the response you want. Keep an open mind that looks for the missing information, and you will eventually overcome any problem. You have my word on it.
