The wonderful feature film Akeelah and the Bee is about friendship, community, achievement, and love. If I had enough money, I would give multiple copies of this movie to every single educational institution in the world. I can’t give away that many DVD copies, but I can give a few and so can you.

“Akeelah Anderson can spell. She can spell better than anyone in her school in South Central Los Angeles, and she might have a chance at the nationals. Who can say? She sees the National Spelling Bee on ESPN and is intrigued. But she is also wary, because in her school there is danger in being labeled a “brainiac,” and it’s wiser to keep your smarts to yourself. This is a tragedy in some predominantly black schools: Excellence is punished by the other students, possibly as an expression of their own low self-esteem.”
— Roger Ebert

We see Akeelah as she struggles to get by in school. She’s never missed a spelling word, although she doesn’t study, but she does love words. She plays Scrabble on her computer. Her dad also loved words. He died when she was six, and now five years later she feels closer to her dad than her mother, a single, over-worked mom trying to raise a daughter with her own baby, Akeelah and her gangsta-wannabe brother.

This is a movie with relationships and my favorite one is between Akeelah and her best buddy, Georgia. Georgia is always supportive and she has dreams of her own. She wants to be a flight attendant. She is unwavering in her encouragement of Akeelah, and Akeelah repays with encouragement and support in kind. When Akeelah is invited to a birthday party for a fellow spelling bee contestant in the prestigious Woodland Hills area, Georgia goes with her. At the party, however Georgia refuses to get out of the car and instead chooses shopping at the mall. She knows she doesn’t fit in with Akeelah’s new friends. As Akeelah gains notoriety and becomes a local celebrity, Georgia sees Akeelah less and this saddens her, but she never fails to offer encouragement. They remain friends . . . and Georgia will probably grow up to be a flight attendant.

Throughout the movie, the characters never take the easy way out. There are so many clichés that could have been easily applied. They weren’t.

Akeelah meets every challenge with determination and pluck. She chooses her own path from forging her permission slip, to skipping a tutoring session, and to misspelling a word on purpose. She makes decisions and suffers the consequences.

Akeelah and the Bee is a movie that deserves to be shown over and over again to young people, old people, friends and strangers as well. Share the experience with your neighbors and students. Support your local schools at every opportunity. Now, that spells success.

Casino Royale, the 21st James Bond film, is due to start shooting shortly and is to be released November 2006.
It is already a hot topic amongst fans of the 007 franchise, with the new Bond, Daniel Craig, generating much debate amongst fans.

Fans of the original Ian Fleming books will be hoping for a more authentic portrayal of both the character and the book.
The producers seem to have been reluctant to take a risk with the formula in the past, presumably for purely financial reasons.
The time has come now were they, perhaps, have no choice other than to bring in a new era.

We hope to see a more realistic and gritty film, less gadgets and explosions, more dialogue and less of the quips.
Something of an opportunity was lost when the very real possibility of a Tarantino/Brosnan collaboration fell through.
The director of Goldeneye has returned and is charged with delivering us a new Bond. His work on Goldeneye
resurrected the franchise so he has the qualifications to do it again.
Speculation is, as ever, rife as to leading ladies and Bond girls. The charcter of Vesper Lynd will be the most crucial female role and we expect it to
go either to a very big name or a complete unknown.

Time will tell whether they have the courage to make a film worthy of the original creation of Ian Fleming - let’s hope they do.

Several weeks ago, I went out to dinner with a female friend. During dinner I asked her if she had seen Brokeback Mountain yet. She said, “No, I have no desire to see two men kissing all over each other.” I asked her if she would be willing to do me a favor and see the movie anyway. I told her I had a theory and I wanted to see if I was right about something, so she agreed. We met for lunch after she went to see the movie. I asked her what she thought - it turns out that she loved it. I asked her if she was turned off or disgusted by any of the sexual scenes; she said, “No, surprisingly enough, I wasn’t turned off by them at all.” I decided to take it a step further. I asked her if she was turned on by any of the scenes in the movie. Her face turned red and she said, “I have no idea why, but yes, I was turned on by them.” This isn’t the first time I’ve heard a woman say that after having seen the movie. I think I know why women are finding the sexual scenes in Brokeback Mountain so arousing, but before I explain, let me digress just a little.

During an interview a radio talk show host brought up the fact that females aren’t as visual as males. She said that was the reason there aren’t nearly as many male strip clubs as there are female strip clubs. As I discussed in Women’s Infidelity, the word “more” creates a lot of confusion between the sexes. Whenever it has been determined that one sex is “more” of anything, we fail to remember that the other sex still has that trait, only to a lesser degree. For example, males have more hair than females, but that doesn’t mean that females don’t have hair. Males like more sexual variety than females, but that doesn’t mean females don’t like sexual variety. Likewise, males may be more visual than females, but that in no way means that females aren’t visual. Having said that, I would like to address not only how women feel about watching men have sex, but also how women feel about male strip clubs as well as male prostitution.

Heterosexual females are attracted to masculinity. Women don’t get turned on by watching men act like women. So, going to a strip club and watching men dance around in what can best be described as bikini panties is not a turn on for most females. If you want women to pay to see men, then build a bar with a glass front on a construction site and you’ll make a fortune. The female animal likes to watch physically fit men work. If men want to get women’s attention, all they have to do is take off their shirts and lift something heavy or pick up a shovel and start digging a hole. Trust me, men would receive the same kind of attention that they normally give to partially exposed, pushed-up breasts.

This explains my friend’s arousal during the sexual scenes in Brokeback Mountain – the sexual scenes were extremely masculine. The men weren’t caressing and cuddling with each other; the love scenes were very passionate and aggressive. Passion and aggression are what arouse the female animal.

Now, on to the issue of male prostitution, someone just recently asked me, “If women like sex as much as men, why aren’t there more male prostitutes running around?” Well, I can think of several reasons. First of all, until recently, women didn’t have any money, so obviously paying for sex wasn’t an option. Likewise, females experiencing pleasure from sex is also something that is relatively new. Prior to 60-65 years ago sex was only thought of as pleasurable for males; therefore was no information available about how to please women sexually. Plus, when females did experience sexual pleasure they were encouraged to hide their pleasure from their partners in order to make the men feel more secure. However, those reasons aside, there’s still the undeniable fact that a male has a hard time pleasing just one female, while a female has the ability to please many males…although now, Viagra may help to alleviate this problem. (For further explanation see Women’s Infidelity, Chapter 6: Why Women Find Affair Sex Particularly Appealing.)

Therefore, in the past, circumstances were such that male prostitution couldn’t even be a plausible fantasy, much less a reality. Men like porn because it is made to appeal to their desires and fantasies. Now that women have economic freedom for the first time in history, they are able to voice their desires - more and more it’s becoming clear that who they are and what they desire is quite different from who they were forced to be in the past.

If you’re a movie lover, and you incessantly rent DVDs, the recent wave and exponential growth of the popularity of online DVD rental stores should please you. The Internet’s ability to offer you literally any product has grown. Now you can rent DVDs and video games through the Internet and at a serious advantage to your local Blockbuster too.

Sites like Netflix.com offer numerous advantageous to the “old” way of renting DVDs. For example, you get to choose from almost 50,000 different titles. Imagine the size of a Blockbuster that held that many choices! You get all the new releases when you want them. No more waiting to see a movie. There are no late fees whatsoever. That’s a savior to some people! There is free shipping to and from your doorstep! There are also no long term contracts and you can cancel your economically priced membership anytime you’d like!

It’s so simple that even a child could do it! After filling out some basic information, you simply add whatever movies you’d like to see to a queue and they arrive at your doorstep! Most membership prices range from $4.99 a month to $39.99 a month. Obviously, the more expensive plans allow for you to take out more DVDs at one time.

DVD turnaround time is amazingly speedy. DVDs usually arrive in my regular mail within one or two days after ordering. And when I return DVDs, the company usually receives them in about the same time. Keep in mind I’m not paying ANY postage fees as well!

Keep your DVDs as long as you want, too. You won’t be charged any late fees at all! Keep a movie for two months if you’d like! Of course, that makes no sense, but you can do it if you please! This prevents you from forgetting to take movies back and paying late fees that cost more than actually buying the movie! The money you save from late fees per month is alone enough to cover the cost for this service!

All in all, it’s a simple choice. For simplicity, to save money and to have a better selection: online DVD renting is the way to go and will be the way to go for years to come!

PsP handhelds are one of the newest and most fun ways to play games, watch movies and listen to music. PsP movie downloads are just some things that you can do on your psp besides just games. PsP movie downloads is a fun and easy.

There are many places on the net were one can find psp movie downloads and psp music downloads. Some sites have you pay per song or movie basis and sometimes charge up to a couple dollars for each download. Other sites require a membership and a monthly fee were user share files. This method sometimes can be frustrating when you are in the middle of a download and the user signs off before the download is complete.

I prefer to use sites that have a onetime membership for psp music, psp movies, psp games and psp software downloads. The best sites have their databases jammed pack with over a million songs, movies, games, and software available for downloading. Some of these sites have no limit to the amount of downloads you do per day.

There are some sites were the database does not have quality psp music and psp movie downloads and they might be very slow to download. I have placed a link at the top of this site for a one that has quality psp movie downloads, psp music, psp games and software downloads. You may want to check it out.

Once you have downloaded some psp movies, psp music and games you can take them anywhere you go. This is great when you have places to go or have long travel times to get somewhere. It really helps to pass the time away, while your having fun either listening to psp music or watching a psp movie or just playing a new game. There are so many games available you should never run out of games to play music to listen to and movies to watch.

Make sure that what ever site you choose either comes with a money back guarantee in case your not satisfied with their database of music songs, movies, games and software. I have been using the above site for over three months and never had the need to ask for my money back. I now have so many psp movie downloads, psp music and games downloaded that I often find it hard to decide which game to play, song to listen to, or movie to watch. If you’re wise and make the right choice you will be having fun all day long with your psp.

Nobuhiro Watsuki’s Rurouni Kenshin, also known as Samurai X in its English-dubbed version, became one of the most popular Anime series. It was derived from the Manga (a term for the Japanese comic book) that was published in 1992 by Shueisha in Japan. Although the TV series started around 10 years ago, this Anime is still a popular title up to the time this article was written, and probably will still be popular for some years to come. There are a lot of reason why this anime is so popular but the main reason is that it is somewhat different from most of the Anime series that came out. Like any other popular Anime series, it has a hero with an interesting character, has an exciting plot, a mix of comedy, drama, and awesome fighting action. But what separates this Anime from the others is that its fiction lies behind a factual history. The setting and the events in the background do exist and can be found in the records of Japanese history.

The whole story found in the 95 episodes of the TV series happened in the 19th century Japan in a period known as the Meiji Era, in its early years. The hero, a wanderer named Kenshin Himura, was once an skillful assassin for the Choshou clan (one of the oppositions to the Tokugawa government) and fought during the Bakumatsu war. After the war, he decided to change his ways and swore not to kill. During his journey, he met Kaoru Kamiya, a young girl who lived in his late father’s dojo found in Tokyo, where they met their friends. That includes Sanosuke, an ex-gangster who was hired by a revenge-seeking menace to kill Kenshin. After their fight, Sanosuke also decided to join Kenshin’s friendly gang.

Also there’s Yahiko, a young thief adopted by Kaoru, and other interesting characters. Most of their villains were also warriors who can’t let go of the old ways. Some of them are Aoshi Shinomori, who was once the leader of Oniwa Banshu (an elite group of ninjas back in the Edo Period), and Shishio Makoto, who was also an assassin during the war. The series can be divided into three parts. First is the Tokyo Arc, which is the sum of Kenshin’s adventures that happened in Tokyo. Next is the Kyoto Arc, the one I consider (and I believe most Rurouni Kenshin fans would agree) as the main part of the whole series. Here, Kenshin and his friends travels to Kyoto to stop a terrorist group, lead by a former assassin, Shishio Makoto, from its evil plans to destroy the government. Following the Kyoto Arc are the final episodes where Kenshin and his friends continues their adventure. This TV series was aired on Cartoon Network and Animax.

On December of 1997, A Rurouni Kenshin Movie was released in Japan. It was entitled “Ishin Shishi no Requiem” (entitled Samurai X: The Motion Picture in the English-dubbed version). Here, Kenshin and his friends travels to Yokohama where they are caught between an attempt for a civil war against the Meiji Government. Two years after it’s release, the first Rurouni Kenshin OAV (Original Animated Video) was released, entitled Tsuioku Hen (Samurai X: Remembrance). This OAV is an awesome 4-episode special for Rurouni Kenshin that shows the life of Kenshin as Hitokiri Battousai, or the assassin that he used to be. In several aspects, this OAV is very different from the TV series and the movie.

The graphics and animation is higher in quality and more life-like, the fight scenes are truly spectacular, and the story, dialogs, and everything is a lot more emotional. Most of the characters that appeared in the TV series weren’t present and in the story, Kenshin had a wife named Tomoe Yukishiro. While this OAV supposedly happened before the TV series, the second OAV, entitled Seisou Hen (Samura X: Reflection) is set after the story in the TV series. This time, Kenshin was already married to Kaoru and they had a son named Kenji who is also learning his father’s technique from the master, Seijuro Hiko. The main villain in the story (who also appeared in the first OAV) is Enishi Yukishiro, Tomoe’s little brother. Seisou Hen was released in Japan on December, 2001.

Rurouni Kenshin is truly a work of art. No wonder why a lot of people considered this Anime as their favorite. For the past years that Rurouni Kenshin reached the peak of its popularity, a lot of websites that are dedicated to this Anime series had emerged. Some of them features episode guides, character profiles, and other information about the Rurouni Kenshin Anime and Manga.

The Live 8 and Post Katrina phenomenons were wonderful displays of Hollywoodism. Take Brad Pitt for example. This ageless wonder stands on a stage and tells US why it would be a good idea to donate OUR money to a cause. Why doesn’t he and his Beverly Hills pals donate their next movie paycheck entirely to a cause instead? Why doesn’t Madonna donate a year’s worth of profits to something worthwhile? Why don’t professional athletes “donate” a season to charity? Are they really going to miss their salary from 2006 when it’s part of a colossal 10 year contract plus signing bonus? Did the “Friends” do “charity” shows when they were each pulling in $1 million per episode? We think not.

But we should pick up the phone and donate my $25 along with 5 million other Americans so then we can creep towards some inane goal and ultimately not reach it. Why do you have to stand there and waste time trying to nickel and dime the common people with your celebrity status when in reality your measly contributions to the cause are a small fraction of your disposable income.

The math is simple…collect $10 from 1 million people out there….obviously a daunting task that demands some sort of “hard sale”, in the form of some Hollywoodite standing there and acting compassionate by reading off of cue cards. OR, you can collect $1 million for 10 different multi millionaires. For Brad Pitt, $1 million would be the equivalent of pocket lint or breakfast table donut crumbs for someone of my stature. Not to take everything out on Brad, the poor guy, it’s just that your pretty face and compassionate imagery along with that wack-assed bleach blonde hair that you had for awhile made such an impression on us.

Nominated for 17 Emmys in its short four-year stint, In Living Color is widely considered the best skit comedy show since SNL. Created by the multitalented star Keenen Ivory Wayans (the eldest child from a large and talented family), the 30-minute TV show became an instant hit for emerging big network competitor FOX in the spring of 1990. Showcasing the talents of the Wayans family (especially blockbuster talent Damon Wayans), along with initial cast members David Alan Grier, Tommy Davidson, Kim Coles, T’keyah “Crystal” Keymah, Kelly Coffield, and Jim Carrey (who would use the show as a springboard to smash hit movie career that would begin with Ace Ventura: Pet Detective in 1994), In Living Color quickly achieved the status of TV cult icon…

Along with clever, cutting-edge writing, In Living Color featured a plethora of talented cast members who would move on to enormously successful Hollywood careers. The show’s dance troop, The Fly Girls, hired an ambitious dancer named Jennifer Lopez for the show’s final season, and Season 2 of the show involved the hire of Oscar Award-winning actor Jamie Foxx (of Collateral and Ray). For its final season, In Living Color also featured notable appearances by comedian Chris Rock. Along the way, the series would create a number of legendary recurring characters such as Homey D. Clown (Damon Wayans), Fire Marshall Bill (Jim Carrey), and Men on Film (Damon Wayans & David Alan Grier)…

The In Living Color DVD features a number of hilarious episodes including the series premiere in which the show begins with a skit entitled “Love Connection”. Jim Carrey stars as Chuck Woolery, trying to bring together star-crossed lovers Mike Tyson (Keenen Ivory Wayans) and Robin Givens (Kim Coles). This first episode also features the first appearance of the popular characters from the skit “Men on Film”. Other notable episodes from Season 1 include “Introducing… Homey D. Clown” in which the world first meets an ex-con turned clown who refuses to engage in any clown-like acts, and “Anton in the People’s Court” which features the skits “M.C. Hammer Video” and “Ted Turner’s Very Colorized Classics - The Kid”…

Below is a list of episodes included on the In Living Color (Season 1) DVD:

Episode 1 (Pilot) Air Date: 04-15-1990
