The first thing I always tell people when they are looking to try out a new poker online game is to first practice with play money, and then when they are ready to play for real money, go to a low-limit table.
As I have been discussing recently, Pot limit Omaha is quick becoming the second most popular game of choice among poker online players, behind Texas hold em. It is certainly a fun game that provides for a lot of strategy and intrigue, but one should not jump in head first without a decent amount of practice. It has often been said of Hold em that it takes a minute to learn and a lifetime to master, the same can be said of Omaha.
I know too well from personal experience. When I first got the itch to play other games than hold em, I decided to tackle Omaha. I read a brief primer online, played a few practice games, and dove in. Well, that was a mistake. I thought I could just try the game and immediately become an expert, but my illusions were short lived. I lost a decent amount of money that first week, and decided to go back right there and practice a lot more.
So, I do highly recommend branching out into other online poker games. Just make sure you have a good amount of practice before playing for big bucks.
