My Abortion Story
(Parental discretion advised)
Please forgive me if you find any part of the following message offensive. I realize that, because so many people receive these messages from so many diverse backgrounds, there will be those who have conflicting views regarding the subject of abortion. There will be those of both genders who have been involved with an abortion in some way. They will have their views and I’m entitled to mine as well.
To these, I have this to say: IF abortion is murder as some say, and certainly we all acknowledge murder as a sin, Jesus is the only alternative for having those sins forgiven just as I’ve had my many sins forgiven, for mine are no less offensive to a Holy God. We’ve all sinned and have fallen short of His glory, Scripture tells us. So, whether we’re talking about abortion, rape, murder, lust, greed, rage, gossip…it’s all sin and only the blood of Christ can save any of us.
To those who believe abortion is murder and is, therefore, wrong, I have this to say: I’ll stand by as you cast that first stone. People who hurt people are hurting people and need our compassion, mercy and help. NOT a condemning finger pointed at their faces. If you feel compelled to fight for those who cannot defend themselves, don’t blow up an abortion clinic or handcuff yourself to one of its doors. Don’t carry a bigger sign or yell louder than those across the line. Instead, give them water and set up a portable pavilion to provide shade. Love them and see if it doesn’t open up the door for intelligent dialogue and ministry opportunities. They’ll know we are Christians by our love. Even our enemies will recognize that. Simply put, what would Jesus do? He died for His enemies.
To those considering abortion, I have this to say: I’m sure you’d agree that in order to make good decisions, we need good information. Agreed? Please consider and even pray about the information contained herein. Go to Pro-Life as well as Pro-Abortion websites, bearing in mind that they cannot both be right. People are either lying to you or telling you the truth. That’s the way life is. If a statement isn’t true, what else can it be but a lie? Right? There are no half-truths or white lies. Something is either true or false, despite today’s culture that resists absolutes.
Here’s a tip: check out the leadership, the founders from which a group’s philosophy flows; its roots. For example, Margaret Sanger founded Planned Parenthood. Her first handbook, published for adolescents in 1915 and entitled, What Every Boy and Girl Should Know, featured a startling afterward in which Sanger wrote: It is a vicious cycle; ignorance breeds poverty and poverty breeds ignorance. There is only one cure for both, and that is to stop breeding these things. Stop bringing to birth children whose inheritance cannot be one of health or intelligence. Stop bringing into the world children whose parents cannot provide for them.
Personally, I cannot side with a woman with a philosophy so contrary to what Jesus Christ taught. You can make your own decision in this same way.
Here’s my story.
For 14 years, I was not at liberty to discuss the details of which you are about to read. The contents of this article are being written and spoken about openly with permission in recognition of the fact that others my be helped. Hopefully, many others.
I became a serious Christian in February of 1987. Prior to that, I had merely “played” at being one and went through my own series of self-righteous, often sickeningly pious, religious motions. By all outward appearances, I was a better “Christian” than most Christians. Fact was, I was married to my work as an Art Director in the crazy world of Dallas advertising. I went in early and came home late and, though I was faithful to my wife, I shared more of my soul - my mind, will and emotions - with the ladies at work than I did with my own spouse, the mother of my 3 small children. My family got second-best from me. Maybe even third.
One Saturday afternoon, my wife came home from running errands and tearfully told me an awful truth: she had become pregnant through an extramarital affair she was having. She had gone out to have an abortion that morning - an abortion that her lover was “kindly” willing to pay for - but she simply could not go through with it. While both of us cried, I forgave her as I had already made up my mind long ago that abortion was wrong. More on that in a moment.
A few weekends later, my wife had taken our three children to visit their grandmother out of town, leaving me all alone with my thoughts. What I’m about to tell you are the ONLY details that I can actually recall regarding a telephone call I had late that night with a Catholic priest whom I had apparently gotten out of bed to take my call. I needed to talk to somebody - ANYBODY. Having been raised a Catholic, calling a Catholic Church out of the Dallas, Texas phone book was all that felt comfortable to me at the moment.
I couldn’t locate that priest again in a million years. He may have been an angel for all I know. One thing I’m sure of is that God gave him the exact words to speak to me at that precise moment in time. After sharing with him the details, plus the fact that I had since decided to raise the child as my own, he sighed and said, “Wow, Mike…you know, Joseph raised a baby that wasn’t his….”
Friends, that was ALL I needed to hear. I knew in that instant that, with God’s help, I could manage. I do not recall any more of the conversation. I do not recall even saying ‘good-night.’ What I DO recall was turning around to see who was in the room with me as I suddenly felt a very distinct presence. As I turned back around, I felt the Lord’s arms wrap around me in a warm, reassuring embrace.
I was experiencing a peace that passed all understanding.
Sixteen years later, that little girl is a beautiful high school sophomore of whom I am very proud. Though her mother eventually divorced me while the child was an infant, eventually re-marrying a completely different man, only two years ago, she and her husband and I agreed it was time to tell the young lady - our daughter - the truth. Currently, she is forming a relationship with her birth-father, his wife and her two sisters. By God’s grace, the best has been made of an absolutley trying situation.
One look at her and anybody would wonder how anyone could - even for a minute - have considered abortion as a viable option.
(There is MUCH more statistical data regarding abortion, incest, and the right-to-life issue that cannot fit in this section. Therefore, I now present the closing paragraphs Please write me at team1min@aol.com and request the remainder of the article. Thanks!)
What can Christians do?
I have resisted the urge to broadcast regarding this topic for a long time. Too political. Too emotional. Not spiritual enough. But the Lord has apparently given me the green light. I HAD to obey.
I could never have aborted the wonderful, beautiful young woman I raised from birth and know today. I’ve given her my name and she is my daughter and she calls me ‘dad’.
I have met the former Evangelist-turned-talk-show-host of Life Today, James Roberson, himself a product of the rape of his mother. His ministry is feeding and clothing neglected children across the world. Millions of children have been touched by this man’s ministry.
In the early days of Christianity, when Roman orgies were often producing unwanted children, these newborns were often tossed over the wall to be devoured by wild anmals or die of exposure. It was Christians who would gather up these children and raise them to know and love God.
Moses was a baby who was saved as a result of a woman with a heart of compassion, and he eventually led the children of Israel out of Egypt. Jesus himself was raised by Joseph, a man who was not His biological father. All of us who have come out of darkness and into the glorious light of Christ have received the Spirit of adoption and are now the sons of God, co-laborers with Christ, heirs to the throne, and brothers of Jesus.
Raise a baby that is not your own? Assist those who do? In these dark and evil days, where 4500 babies are being aborted EVERY DAY,such situations are more and more likely to occur and touch many of our lives. There IS another way - not a politically correct way, but a CHRISTIAN way - of looking at these situations. As always, as in every instance, there remain no natural answers to this spiritual problem. We cannot lobby, vote or protest these problems away. People need more from the Church than that.
They need what we Christians claim that we have; the answer to all the world’s problems. They need Jesus.
Once again, the Body of Christ, this Army of God, must resist the urge to merely REACT to a situation. Rather, we must ACT according to the example our Savior has set for us.
(Prov 31:8) “Open your mouth for those who cannot speak, and for the rights of those who are left without help.”
Since 1999, Pastor Michael Tummillo has been broadcasting his eMail messages to tens of thousands of people across the planet. Possibly, millions as a result of FORWARDS. Not only are other on-line ministries posting his messages, but others are publishing his articles in their newsletters and newspapers and teaching and preaching from them.

Reasons to Garden Organically
Most organic gardeners do so for one of two reasons - to do their part in saving the earth, and to avoid harmful additives in the foods they consume. Very often organic gardening is thought of as a hobby practiced in backyards. The fact is that organic gardening has become very popular over the past several years and many people practice some form of organic gardening without even realizing it. The practice of growing fruits and vegetables using only natural methods is known as organic gardening. No artificial chemicals are used for pest control, fertilizing, or weed control.
The lack of harmful chemicals on the foods your family consumes is reason enough to practice organic gardening. There is no harm done to the environment and you will feel as if you are doing your part to protect our planet. You will also save money, as natural methods of gardening cost lees than purchasing chemicals and fertilizer. Organic gardening includes many factors. The use of compost in place of much and fertilizer is a basic concept in organic gardening. Only plant matter is used for mulching and manure is used in place of chemical fertilizers. Learning the proper techniques needed to avoid disease and grow healthy plants is another important part of organic gardening.
The use of natural insect repellants such as ladybugs and preying mantis is used in place of pesticides or insecticides. If these do not live naturally in your area, you can purchase both ladybugs and preying mantis from companies specializing in organic gardening. Pulling weeds by hand is more beneficial than killing them with weed killers and you will do no harm to the environment. An organic gardener is willing to sacrifice a small portion of his or her harvest to the bugs in order to provide their families with natural foods free of chemicals. Organic gardening is also a great way to recycle and conserve. Composted kitchen scraps and weeds reduce the amount of waste that is deposited in landfills and sewers.

What Every Woman Should Know About Fashion
If you are the average woman, knowing all the ins and outs of fashion is not something you have time to learn and research. With our busy lives, we just buy what we think will look nice and is affordable. However, there are some simple rules you can follow to keep yourself “In Fashion”, so to speak. These rules are:
1. Don’t try to update your whole wardrobe at once! It’s always best to try out “a look” or “new fashion” before buying out the store. You may find that they look is great for you and then you can add more pieces when you can. Sometimes you will find the look is all wrong for you, so adding only a few pieces won’t break your bank account.
2. You should never buy something you feel you are ‘too old’ to wear! If you do buy it, you probably won’t wear it because you won’t feel comfortable in it.
3. You shouldn’t be scared to dress outside of your normal age group! When you are 55, that doesn’t automatically take mini skirts out of your wardrobe. Just because you are 22, that doesn’t mean you have to wear mini skirts, either. Go with the fashion and style you look good in and feel comfortable wearing.
4. Black clothes almost always look more flattering, expensive and sophisticated! Having some black “staple” clothing is always a good fashion idea.
5. When you don’t have money, don’t go shopping! Buying cheap clothing just because you went shopping is usually a bad investment. It won’t be what you really wanted and you probably won’t wear that fashion of clothing much.
6. Don’t shop based on fashion fads! When you’ve heard about a particular fashion fad, it will probably be over! Fad fashion never has a long lifespan, so stick with the general fashion trends.
7. Step outside your “fashion box” for a while! If you are normally conservative, try a miniskirt or some low cut jeans for a change. Not comfortable with that…just add a fringed or sequins handbag to your collection. Everyone, no matter their fashion sense, should have fun with the fashions they wear on occasion. Even though you will normally go back to your old look, you will probably have a new approach to it.
8. Don’t let fashion jeopardize your professional image! See-through, low neckline, sleazy fashions will never do wonders for your career. Those fashions are simply inappropriate for the 9 to 5 world.
9. Fashion is only a small part of the whole “you”! If you put a lot of time and effort into other aspects of your life, what you wear won’t be what everyone notices about you. Don’t spend all your time worrying about your wardrobe fashion.
10. When you look at fashion, it is all about YOU! Love a look…look great in it…can afford the clothing…then buy it! Fashion is just that simple!

Ear Infection In Dogs - Symptoms and Causes
Brian Kilcommons relates a terrible story about a beautiful golden retriever dog who was usually very gentle and kind with children. It’s owners had a girl aged 3 1/2, and they normally got along very well. Then one day the little girl grabbed the dog’s ear. It snarled and bit her face. She needed 47 stitches in her face, and they put the dog down. The parents had the dog euthanized without bothering to find out what had caused this sudden change in their dog’s behaviour. The vet, however, did an autopsy, and found our that this dog was suffering not one but two severe ear infections that were incredibly painful.
Ear infections usually start out mild, and in the outer ear. This dog’s health was effectively neglected by it’s owners. And when their toddler grabbed the infected ear, the dog, already in constant pain anyway, reacted out of instinct. By not taking the time to properly care for their pet, these owners were in fact responsible for what happened to their child. And then blamed the dog. And probably out of ignorance or anger, or both, they had it killed. Their emotional response to what happened to their child as a result of their own neglect aside, I find this absolutely reprehensible. And the tragedy that happened to their dog when they chose to kill it instead of investigating further, as well as their child, was totally avoidable.
Unlike these owners, show your dog the same level of care and love you’d show your children. Become aware of the signs of ear infections, what causes them, and how to avoid them, taking dogs to get treatment when it seems like they have one.
Ear infections can be caused by any number of things. Wet ears not dried after swimming or bathing, a build up of ear wax, grass seeds and fox tails, untreated ear mites, using cotton tips to clean ears (which pushes things further into the ear), and growths in the ear canal, can all lead to ear infections. If your dog is scratching at his ears, rubbing them, holding his head to one side, or down, shaking his head, or if they look bloody or waxy or swollen, they should be checked out. And if he cries when his ears are touched, this is another sign of a potential ear infection.
When untreated ear infections progress deeper into the ear, the pain the dog is in increases sharply. The dog may hold his head as still as possible, and to one side. And opening his mouth, or touching his head, will cause him pain. Dogs can also become dizzy, with poor balance and coordination, when the infection progresses to the inner ear. Dogs may walk around in circles, and vomit.
Ear infections are also related to skin allergies, especially food hypersensitivity dermatitis and canine atopy. Dogs with these conditions often develop inflamed ears. The dog’s ears become very itchy, which creates an ‘itch-scratch-itch’ cycle that in turn creates scabs around the ear, hair loss, crustiness, and raw skin. The ear canals become filled with a brown wax.
Some dogs are also allergic to some ear medications. A common one is an antibiotic called neomycin, but can be any ear treatment products including cortisone, nystatin, chloramphenicol, thiabendazole, gentamicin, miconazole, and clortrimazole.
One thing of concern in dogs that are professionally groomed is the practice of plucking the hairs out of the dog’s ear. The serum which then comes out of their pores is an excellent breeding ground for bacteria, which is a common cause of ear infection. Vets generally don’t recommend you allow your dog’s ears to be plucked unless their is a good medical reason to do so. An example of a good medical reason is if there is a large mat of hair that is blocking air flow.
If the mats of hair are in the ear canal, they should be removed by a vet only. If they’re not, first soak the hair in a coat conditioner for a few minutes to soften it. Then, with your fingers, separate as much of the mat as possible. You may be able to untangle the rest of the mat with a comb, but more likely you’ll need scissors or a mat splitter. Be very careful if you’re using scissors. Using a comb, position it under the mat to protect the skin. Hold the scissors at right angles to the comb, and cut into the matted fur in narrow strips. Very gently, tease the mat out, and then comb out any snarls that are left. Regular grooming, with the right tools, will avoid mats forming in the first place.
Always check your dog’s ears after he’s been playing in long grasses. If you think there is a foxtail in his ear, take him to the vet’s and don’t try and get it out yourself. Fox tails can really damage the ear. If when you press gently on the ear canal he cries out in pain, there’s a good chance there’s a fox tail in there.

Mesothelioma for Dummies
Mesothelioma is a benign (noncancerous) or malignant (cancerous) tumor of the mesothelium that is commonly caused by asbestos. Asbestos, although not the topic of this paper, is a fiberlike material that was used in construction materials to provide more strength and heat resistance. Any exposure to asbestos can be harmful and cause problems later in life. The chance of having problems due to asbestos is the same for all people regardless of their age, sex, race, etc. All are at risk of cancer and other diseases due to their exposure to asbestos.
How common is mesothelioma? According to Mesothelioma.com, it occurs in 14 cases out of every 1 million each year, but it is also becoming more and more common. Men over 60 years old have the greatest tendency to be diagnosed with mesothelioma. This is typically due to exposure to construction materials at some point in their lifetime.
The symptoms of mesothelioma are typically pain in the lower back, pain in the side of the chest, and shortness of breath. For a better description of the symptoms please see the more qualified information that can be found on Mesothelioma.com.
There are three different systems used to classify the stages of mesothelioma. Those systems are the Butchart System, the TNM System, and the Brigham System. The diagnosing is normally done with a tissue biopsy, but can also be done with x-rays, CT scans, and MRIs.
As with most cancers, mesothelioma is treated with one or some combination of chemotherapy, surgery, and radiation. Mesotheliomaweb.org also notes that photodynamic therapy, immunotherapy, and gene therapy are also being used in some cases.
The final takeaway is that mesothelioma is a serious condition and it should not be treated lightly. If you think you are experiencing symptoms, then get in to a doctor and get it checked out. Your health is important and your doctor will be able to help you or get you in touch with someone who can.

Play the Credit Card Game and WIN
When we got married we had over $34,000 in outstanding debts, much of it on credit cards. After sitting down to have a good cry I got things into perspective. With a solid plan and the determination to stick with it, we could have those debts completely paid off within a couple of years.
The time it takes to clear those debts depends on your income and ability to trim other expenses in order to funnel as much money as possible toward those debts. It does NOT mean that you will have no life and no fun. You will have to make tough choices so your life should be different, but you can always make it fun.
There are several ways to play the credit card game and win. You can consolidate your balances into a lower interest loan, you could refinance your mortgage and roll those debts into your home loan, or you could play the game of transferring higher interest balances to low or zero interest credit cards. I chose the latter option, you will need to consider which option is best for you based on your own credit rating, your ability to secure low interest loans, your ability to repay and most importantly, your level of discipline.
If you have no discipline when it comes to money, then the process of transferring balances could be hard for you, as it requires you to pay attention to when your zero interest credit card offer expires and move that balance to the next card at the right time. If this is too time consuming for you, then you’ll definitely want to look into refinancing your mortgage or getting a consolidation loan to cover all your credit cards.
I love numbers, I love math, and playing with money like this is a game for me not a chore. So transferring balances to new credit cards every few months was fun. Watching those balances shrink as I paid ZERO interest the entire time was a thrill. I felt victorious over the credit card companies… and over my debt. As a result we paid off over $34,000 in debts in about 18 months. When you’re not paying any interest and you don’t stray from the plan it can work. It really can. You don’t have to love the game in order to win it. You just have to keep playing and don’t lose sight of the goal. Pay off the debt.

Shakespeare’s Sonnet XVIII, Shall I Compare Thee to a Summer’s Day?
Shakespeare’s sonnets require time and effort to appreciate. Understanding the numerous meanings of the lines, the crisply made references, the brilliance of the images, and the complexity of the sound, rhythm and structure of the verse demands attention and experience. The rewards are plentiful as few writers have ever approached the richness of Shakespeare’s prose and poetry.
“Sonnet XVIII” is also known as, “Shall I Compare Thee to a Summer’s Day?” It was written around 1599 and published with over 150 other sonnets in 1609 by Thomas Thorpe.
The first 126 sonnets are written to a youth, a boy, probably about 19, and perhaps specifically, William Herbert, Earl of Pembroke. His initials, W.H., appear in Thorpe’s dedication, and the first volume of Shakespeare’s plays, published by two of his fellow actors, Herminge and Condell, after Shakespeare’s death, was dedicated to William Herbert.
“Sonnet XVIII” is one of the most famous of all of Shakespeare’s sonnets. It is written in the sonnet style that Shakespeare preferred, 14 lines long with three quatrains (four rhymed lines) and a couplet (a pair of rhymed lines).
The Sonnet praises the youth’s beauty and disposition, comparing and contrasting the youth to a summer day. Then the sonnet immortalizes the youth through the “eternal lines” of the sonnet.
First Quatrain
The first line announces the comparison of the youth with a summer day. But the second line says that the youth is more perfect than a summer day. “More temperate” can be interpreted as more gentle. A summer day can have excesses such as rough winds. In Shakespeare’s time May was considered a summer month, a reference in the third line. The fourth line contains the metaphor that summer holds a lease on the year, but the lease is of a short duration.
Second Quatrain
This quatrain details how the summer can be imperfect, traits that the youth does not possess. The fifth line personifies the sun as “the eye of heaven” which is sometimes too scorchingly hot. On the other hand, “his gold complexion,” the face of the sun, can be dimmed by overcast and clouds. According to line 7, all beautiful things (fair means beautiful) sometimes decline from their state of beauty or perfection by chance accidents or by natural events. “Untrimmed” in line 8 means a lack of decoration and perhaps refers to every beauty from line 7.
Third Quatrain
This quatrain explains that the youth will possess eternal beauty and perfection. In line 10 “ow’st” is short for ownest, meaning possess. In other words, the youth “shall not lose any of your beauty.” Line 11 says that death will not conquer life and may refer to the shades of classical literature (Virgil’s Aeneid) who wander helplessly in the underworld. In line 12 “eternal lines” refers to the undying lines of the sonnet. Shakespeare realized that the sonnet is able to achieve an eternal status, and that one could be immortalized within it.
The Final Couplet
The couplet is easy to interpret. For as long as humans live and breathe on earth with eyes that can see, this is how long these verses will live. And these verses celebrate the youth and continually renew the youth’s life.
“Shall I Compare Thee” is one of the most often quoted sonnets of Shakespeare. It is complex, yet elegant and memorable, and can be quoted by men and women alike. It has been enjoyed by all generations since Shakespeare and will continue to be enjoyed “so long as men can breathe, or eyes can see.”
Sonnet XVIII, Shall I Compare Thee?
By William Shakespeare
Shall I compare thee to a Summer’s day?
Thou are more lovely and more temperate:
Rough winds do shake the darling buds of May,
And Summer’s lease hath all too short a date:
Sometime too hot the eye of heaven shines,
And often is his gold complexion dimm’d;
And every fair from fair sometime declines,
By chance or nature’s changing course untrimm’d:
But thy eternal Summer shall not fade
Nor lose possession of that fair thou ow’st;
Nor shall Death brag thou wander’st in his shade,
When in eternal lines to time thou grow’st:
So long as men can breathe, or eyes can see,
So long lives this, and this gives life to thee.

The ‘ListBot Dilemma’ and List Hosting Alternatives
I’m disgusted.
On June 22, 2001, one of the most popular list hosts announced that it was replacing it’s excellent service with a ‘new and improved’ version. We have to save all our subscriber lists and archives by August 20, or they’ll be lost forever - unless, of course, we upgrade to their new service.
You might already know that I’m talking about ListBot. Yes, the extremely popular ListBot is to be replaced with something called ‘ListBuilder’.
Now I don’t begrudge them for eliminating the ‘free ListBot’; they’re a business, after all, and they have to try to remain profitable. What bothers me is that they don’t seem to care one whit about what this means to their customers - free AND paying customers.
Let me add that they had a lot of loyal customers - people who loved their service and were willing, even happy, to pay for it. I was one of them … until recently.
This change has a big effect on those of us who used ListBot to manage our newsletters. Our ListBot subscription links will now be defunct. In other words, years of hard work promoting our subscription links - in articles, eBooks, links, and so on - are completely *wasted*.
THAT is why I’m disgusted. It’s hard to believe that ListBot would behave so callously towards their loyal, paying fans.
My trust is broken. I loved ListBot. I *don’t*, however, love what they’ve done. So instead of upgrading to their new ListBuilder service, I went looking for another solution.
SCRIPTS
~~~~~~~~
One option is to purchase a script to manage your list. Two such examples are:
== Opt-in Lightning, http://www.optinlightning.com/ == Mail Master Pro, http://www.cgitoolbox.com/package.html
With scripts, there’s a number of things to consider. For example, does your web host allow you to install and run scripts? Is there an extra charge for doing so? Do you know how to install a script - or know someone who can do it for you?
On the good side, once installed, your list management is completely under your control. No more relying on another company to handle your newsletter! You typically pay a one-time purchase fee for the script (and possibly the installation as well) and it’s yours to use forever.
FREE LIST HOSTS
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
ListBot used to have a free version (ad-supported). If you’re determined to only use a free list host, two of the most popular are:
== Yahoo Groups, http://groups.yahoo.com/ == Topica, http://www.topica.com/
If, however, you choose to use a free service, be aware that although they’re free *now*, they may not *remain* free. At any time they could choose to start charging for their services (like so many previously ‘free’ online services have done) … or they could withdraw services altogether.
Heck, ListBot was run by Microsoft. If Microsoft couldn’t make it work, how much longer do you think these other services will remain free?
FEE-BASED LIST HOSTS
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
While searching for a solution to my ‘ListBot dilemma’, I came across a large number of list hosts. What I was looking for was a host that could provide all the usual newsletter management features, along with reliability and a strong dedication to customer service.
In terms of money, fee-based list hosts usually work on a subscription basis. You pay a fee periodically (every month, quarter, or year, for example) in exchange for the ability to send a certain number of messages each month. Some list hosts will charge you based on how many messages you send (for example, $1 for every 1000 messages).
Two list hosts that were highly recommended to me are:
== SparkList, http://www.sparklist.com/services/hosting/ == ListChannel, http://buildyourhomebiz.com/listchannel.html
I finally chose to go with ListChannel (SparkList has a minimum of $50/month, which is more than I want to spend). So far I’m happy with ListChannel: it’s fast, reliable, and their customer service is consistently prompt and helpful.
If you’re a ‘ListBot Refugee’, ListChannel has set up a special discount for you (good only until August 20, 2001): http://buildyourhomebiz.com/listbotspecial.html
What You Need To Know About Hybrid Cars
Hybrid cars definitely help fight the pollution problem by
reducing emissions.
Hybrid cars combine a gasoline engine with a battery-powered
electric motor. The electric motor kicks in at certain because
of this hybrid engine gets significantly better gas mileage than
a conventional gas engine.
Hybrids consume less gas and produce less pollution per mile
than conventional gasoline engines. Hybrid cars have been on the
market in the United States since 1999, but more and more are
being developed and introduced each year.
The hybrid engine currently sold in the Honda Civic Hybrid gets
10 to 15 miles more per gallon than a regular gas engine in the
same car. The hybrid engine of the Prius, made by Toyota,
produces 90 percent fewer harmful emissions than a comparable
gasoline engine. No doubt about it, these cars are good for the
environment!
Hybrids are more expensive. Just like with any new technology,
you will pay for the privilege of being a pioneer. The hybrid
cars on the market today cost as much as $6000 more per car than
comparable cars with conventional gas engines.
This means that the amount of money you save, or don’t save, by
buying a hybrid is very much dependent on gasoline prices and
also depends upon how long you intend to keep the vehicle.
If you are the type person who trades every two years you may
very well not benefit from the savings. If gas is priced at
$1.80 per gallon (we wish), it could take the average driver
(15,000 miles per year) between 10 and 15 years to amortize the
$3500 increase in the initial price.
If gas prices stay the way they are at the time of this writing
in October, 2005 you will realize savings much more quickly.
The Federal government is still offering tax breaks to buyers of
hybrid cars through 2006. The amount of the tax break you are
able to claim depends on the year in which you file and the tax
bracket you’re in. Some individual states also offer tax breaks
for hybrid buyers. So maybe being an environmentalist has its
tax advantages.
