Your CPU, also known as the Central Processing Unit, is basically the heart of your computer and without it we would be in the dark ages. Just like the human heart pumps blood throughout the body, your CPU pumps data through the computer and the corresponding parts that are inside of it. This is why your CPU can be a deal breaker when it comes to your computers speed. Not having enough processing power can cause your computer to not work properly and fail, and too much power is…well just a waste of money.

What you want to find is the right speed for you and the socket type for your computers mother board. Most people just buy a new computer when it becomes to slow, but they are wrong in doing so since a simple CPU upgrade will bring it back up to speed with current software and components. So before you go buying a new computer just for more speed, or hiring someone to upgrade your CPU for you, consider doing a CPU upgrade yourself. Now I know what you are thinking, “I know nothing about computers and I am afraid I will mess something up.” Well no need to fret, your in the hands of an experienced computer expert who will teach you each step to remove your old CPU and install a new one.

First we need discuss what CPU you need to buy and the speed it should be. CPU’s connect to your computers motherboard, which is basically the big circuit board in your computer that connects everything together. Your CPU will sit inside of a socket, but what socket type you need is where it gets difficult. There are many different socket types and only two main CPU companies, Intel and AMD. If your computer is equipped with an Intel CPU, then you usually can only replace it with another Intel CPU, unless it is an old socket 7 which can support both. The socket types Intel uses are slot 1 for Pentium two and three chips, socket 370 for Celeron A’s and socket 478 for Pentium 4’s.

AMD uses slot A for Athlon’s, socket 940 for 64 bit Opteron and Athlon multiple CPU motherboards, socket 939 for 64 bit Athlon’s and socket 754, which is basically a cheaper socket for 64 bit Athlon’s.

Now of course these are the current slot and socket types as I am writing this article, but of course technology is always advancing and in the future I assure you new types will come out.

Okay, so after all that you may be wondering how do I find out the slot or socket type that can be used in my computer? Well first I recommend you look at your computer or mother boards manual that came with it, and read about what socket type(s) it supports and what processors work best with it. If you don’t have a manual, then I recommend you find out what processor is currently in your computer and match it with the correct socket type that I talked about above.

Since you have figured out the correct socket type for your new CPU, let’s talk about speed. A processors speed can be measured in MHz or GHz, and GHz is the fastest. Processors that only go MHz are rarely found in computers these days, especially not new ones. The fact of the matter is that MHz processors just can’t cut it for today’s computer applications and operating systems. Plus, one thousand MHz equals one GHz, so you can see the huge speed difference between the two.

The amount of GHz speed you should get depends on what you will be using your computer for. If you plan on using your computer just for regular home use, like surfing the net, doing your taxes and other minor stuff, then you should just get a processor that is between 1 and 1.5 GHz. If you use a lot of programs, that require a lot of data processing, then you should get a processor that is around 2 GHz in speed. For all you computer gamers out there, I know you want something that will make your games load faster, play batter and look better, so I recommend you get a processor that is at least 3 GHz or maybe just a little less or more.

Well that concludes the first part of this article; in the second part we will discuss the removal of your old CPU, and the installation of your new one.

Meals & More31 Oct 2007 02:48 pm

The holidays are almost here and this is the time of year when
it is the most important to learn how to entertain well with a
great selection of food and wine. Both food and wine play a huge
part in our society, in every society really and if we want to
be successful hosts and hostesses we need to learn to make the
most out of all the food and wine that we serve our guests.

Your guests are going to come to your home or party venue and
expect to be treated to some of the best food and wine they have
ever tasted. All guests come this way to every single party they
attend but more often than not they leave unsatisfied with the
food and wine they were served. It is up to you to make sure
that this does not happen after your party, so you need t make
sure that you offer your guests only the finest food and wine to
be found.

Start by talking to your friends to see what went wrong at some
of the other parties they have attended. And take a look at your
own reactions to some of the food and wine that was served. What
is it that you didn’t like about the food and wine and how could
it have been made better than it was? The key to successful
hosting with food and wine is to learn from the mistakes of
others. With this method you will be able to avoid some of the
biggest pitfalls that are out there concerning the food and wine
to be served.

Have a variety of food and wine at your party. Some people
really don’t like red wine and other feel exactly the same way
about white wine. By offering a selection of different food and
wine you will be able to make more people happy and less people
feel neglected or shunned by your food and wine choices. You
should have a diverse selection of the food you are serving as
well. Have some vegetarian snacks as well as some meaty ones. If
you have a diverse group of friends you might even want to get
more diverse in your food and wine selections and even have some
vegan goodies for the vegans of your group.

Thinking of things like this as far as your food and wine choice
shows you as a caring host and those are the parties that people
want to go to. If you make the right choices in your food and
wine then you are always going to have amazing parties filled
with people and good times.

There are times in all of our lives where our self-confidence wanes!! This past week was one of those weeks for me. I questioned the work I was doing, both on the web sites and on our crafts. I found myself wondering if all my time and effort was worthwhile. Would our newfound business provide the income we needed? Is my work good enough for others to want to buy or to read? These are only a few of the questions that ran through my mind. And, with every question, my self-confidence was sliding downward!

Realizing that these negative thoughts were affecting my self-confidence, I went to the website to read quotes on self-confidence only to find I did not have a category for “self-confidence”. I then did a search on the wow4u website and found that I had wonderful quotes on self-confidence. I also went through my files and found more great quotes. So I ended up establishing a category on self-confidence.

As I worked on the web page, my self-confidence was being restored. Many times in my life I have found quotes have actually changed my outlook, and, without fail, it was happening again. The quotes I was reading reassured me, and provided me with the motivation to realize that what I was doing was in fact what I loved to do. Like everything else in life, it takes time; success does not happen overnight!!

As I was reading a quote from Rosalyn Carter, I realized I do have confidence in my ability. What I was lacking was the persistence and determination to follow it through!

“If you doubt you can accomplish something, then you can’t accomplish it. You have to have confidence in your ability, and then be tough enough to follow through.” –Rosalyn Carter

Reflecting on my previous career, it took me 20 years to realize success. I laughed at myself for thinking this new career would be a success in one year. If I have realized anything from working on the wow4u website, and from the experiences of my previous career, it is that success takes time, persistence, determination, and most importantly, believing in yourself!

What if you can understand and control your customer’s mind?
What if you can influence, persuade and motivate your customers
to buy from you? Well, I’m not talking about a magic trick or
lay down a lesson of motivation. It’s about understanding the
different reactions made by the human mind in various
situations. I’m going to briefly discuss 3 key aspects of
psychological secrets that you can apply in your promotion
efforts for a certain increase in customer response. They are,

1. Curiosity

2. Because / Reason Why

3. Greed

Curiosity

———–

What is it? Curiosity can be defined as “the desire to know the
unexplored” in simple terms. People want to know things that
many others don’t know. They like to discover the ‘secrets’ that
only some people know. The desire to know is a compelling force
in marketing, so we have:

* Secrets of the Diet Industry Uncovered

* What Time Share Companies Don’t Want You To Know

* Msteries of A Youthful Appearance Revealed

* The Hidden Keys of Car Buying

People don’t want

* How to Diet Successfully or

* A Guide to Buying Cars

for example. First set of titles surely outshines the second set
of titles because the former takes advantage of curiosity. You
must design your advertising in a way that arouses curiosity.
Getting to see the powerful of curiosity? (When compared the two
sets above)

Because / Reason Why

—————————-

Telling people a valid reason for your action is another great
influencer in human behavior. People will trust you if you can
offer a reason for what you are doing. Say you offer a 50%
discount on your digital cameras for the last 10 days in this
month. People are too smart today and start to think it’s
probably because you want to get rid of your defective products
or because its 2 days before the expiry date (in case of food
items). Wouldn’t you and I think the same way when we see a
similar message?

Give them a true believable reason. For example, let’s say you
have a slow time of the year and you want to increase your
business during this period. Make a special, limited time offer.
Offer to throw in an extra free bonus or a special discount
simply because it’s your “slow time” and you need to pay your
staff anyway.

Don’t you think people will believe it? If you can give a solid
reason for a particular action, people will have no doubts about
what you say - there is simply very little room for doubt.

Greed

——-

People are greedy. I’m not talking about food but ‘greedy’ in a
marketing perspective. Everybody feels from “what’s in it for
me” syndrome. They really want to know how your product can
benefit them. Notice that, the “customer’s will buy benefits and
not products”. Confused? You’ll see what I mean in a minute.

Analyze the following list of benefits written about a digital
camera.

* Can store over 200 photos

* Supports every color you can see

* Manual included so you can start even if you have no previous
experience

This will certainly open the eyes of a person who has an idea of
bu’ying a camera one day. This is in complete contrast to the
following, where the ‘product’ is described.

* Has a memory of 6000k

* Supports 16-bit colors

* 60-page manual included

Customers don’t want a memory of 6000k, but they want to store
200 photos. Get it? You must clearly tell the customer how will
they benefit by bu’ying your produc’t. You can then describe the
prod’uct itself, when they are looking for more information.

To make this point clearer, understand that,

“Customer’s will bu’y benefits and ‘not’ the features.”

Okay.. Whats the difference between features and benefits?
Features describe the product itself - what it has. Benefits
describe the advantages a customer gets by bu’ying the product.
The first list above is a benefits list and the second is a
features list.

Benefits will drive customers to explore more information about
the product. This is when you should give them the features and
describe the product itself. To summarize, get customers into
looking for more info by telling them the benefits and then
describe the prod’uct. This will assure the best results.

I laid out just 3 powerful tactics here. There are many more
‘explored’ and ‘unexplored’ secrets, and hope you can discover a
few too. Please let me know if you do. I hope this information
was helpful to you and wish you good luck and success in your
future mark’eting efforts.

Free Games + More31 Oct 2007 01:58 pm

RuneScape the game is a massive online multiplayer game where anybody in the planet can join epic fights and thrilling battles. The player’s foes are composed of other human players and even artificially intelligent computer generated opponents. Each RuneScape server can be populated by about 5000 unique players. Commonly known as MMORPGs, games like RuneScape are taking over the scene of entertainment on the internet. Of course, many users and gamers are always looking for quality cheats.

RuneScape the game has been so famous thanks to its gigantic world filled with characters, charm and pleasant environment. The player can enjoy and live quests such as adventuring in unknown lands and looking for heaps of treasure. By having the much sought after RuneScape password you can achieve omnipotent status and be eons above the rest.

To start the fun you only have to head over to the RuneScape the game homepage and create a new account if you don’t already have one. Be sure to pick a unique and catchy username since this will be your nickname for the rest of the game. You cannot interchange the name once you select it so be careful when choosing the right one for your character.

Once registered you will be asked to choose a game level. If you own a RuneScape editor, or stats changer, you can select the most difficult level and still make a killing. Such move is known as a “RuneScape Hack”. Then you will be given the chance of what land you wish to venture in. After this, you have the liberty of refining your character’s figure by customizing his or her form. The great thing about a virtual game such as this one is that you can choose any appearance dear to your heart. Do not worry if you aren’t an expert, you will then be guided through a series of tutorials that will teach you all the essentials. A good tip is to have a price guide handy. This way you can expect how much you will have to pay for specialized merchandise.

Defensive, accurate and aggressive are the three types of fight modes you can choose when playing RuneScape the game. Looking for trainers is a necessity if you want to dramatically accelerate your learning. You can carry your weapons along your explorations and use them when convenient. Another cool feature is that you can exchange special items with other players. RuneScape is all about immersing yourself in the game, no words can actually describe the feeling. A well known cheat is to score a RuneScape Macro for boring tasks such as mining for gold. Whatever you do, RuneScape the game will definitely be a game to be remembered for ages!

Jeremy Tang is, like many others, obsessed with RuneScape the game. Check out what RuneScape codes are all about and start having fun as well.

Search Engine Optimization Tips + More31 Oct 2007 01:45 pm

There’s an assumption that the higher a ranking or positioning you have with major search engines; the more people will beat a path to your web doorstep. But based on my experience, that’s simply not true! There’s another factor that is just as important and may actually drive more traffic to your site.

This big secret is frequency: The number of times your name appears when someone enters a key word in a search engine. I believe that the more times you appear in a search, the greater the likelihood of someone actually clicking through to your site.

How do you get frequent listings in search engines? Write quality content articles.

I’m an investment advisor and a while ago I started a second web site (www.successful-investment.com) to promote my weekly mutual fund newsletter, capture potential prospect names and house a library of my published articles.

To get people to the site, I naturally wanted to move up in the search engine food chain. I did the usual meta tag things, but that didn’t cause my rise in the rankings. What did cause it surprised me.

One of my first articles (“Do lifestyle funds provide greater security?”) was submitted to some 30 article banks and web sites. Many of them reprinted it, which increased the number of appearances of my name associated with the topic. Since many of these sites were already ranked high on the search engines, I rode on their success.

Searching Google for “Lifestyle funds” produces over 3 million results. On the first page of results my article is listed four times, on the second page three times and on page three it’s listed three times, and so on. If you were searching this term, with that much presence you would not likely overlook me.

In addition to generating hits on my web site from potential clients, my frequent listing in search engines yielded another benefit: I was invited to CNNfn’s Hollywood studio to discuss my article “How to evaluate load vs. no load mutual funds.” They found me by searching Google for “load vs. no load.” That produced almost 5 million results and on the first page my article appears three times, on the second three times and on the third three time as well—and some included my company listing. I was an authority!

In the past six months I have written and published 17 articles with the key search terms being part of the title. I pretty much get similar results with all of them. Why? I believe quality content is a key.

My core business is “personal investment management.” If you search that on Google you will get about 11 million results. I currently rank number 8. And that’s among the ‘who’s who’ in investment management, companies that invest big bucks to manipulate getting high rankings on search engines.

Can I improve on that? Probably not by trying to manipulate positioning, but definitely with frequency. And that comes from writing articles.

Now, maybe you like this idea but think you can’t write quality articles. I’m not a writer, but my articles get picked up by e-zines and article banks all the time. How does that happen? It’s actually simpler than you think.

There are two aspects to writing; 1. the actual content and 2. the writing style. If you’ve been in business for any length of time you have a wealth of information that you take for granted but others would love to know about. You should be able to write a 300 to 800 word article about your product or service area. Don’t worry about the style; just write quality content that will be helpful to your potential customers.

Although my writing skills are pretty sharp because I do a lot of writing, I would not consider them to be on the same level as a professional writer. So I have a second secret to success.

One of my clients is an award winning Hollywood writer and he “enhances” my articles. It’s usually not a lot of work, but at times I need a better transition from point A to point B. Since the content is clear and basically organized, he doesn’t have to spend any time researching or “doing the heavy lifting.” He can devote his attention to enhancing the quality of the presentation, and that doesn’t take long or cost much.

[If you need help with writing you may contact Laren Bright (punster@earthlink.net) and tell him I sent you.]

I think you will find that writing articles becomes a lot easier once you have that kind of assistance. It certainly became stress-free for me when I didn’t have to worry about form and could concentrate on my long suit: content.

It’s hard to beat the results that my articles have produced for me in terms of exposure, Google rankings and new clients. Given these facts I propose that frequency beats positioning anytime. Try it and see if it boosts your rankings and your business.

Blogs On Blogging31 Oct 2007 01:42 am

Blogs, the abbreviation of Web Logs (online journals), are becoming more and more popular all the time. People are starting new blogs at an astounding rate so it’s safe to assume that there are constantly people out there who want to know how to get a blog going. Despite personal feelings about the actual quality of the majority of blogs out there on the Internet, that’s what I hope to be able to help you do with this article.

First things first, you need somewhere to deposit your thoughts. You need to decide how you want to attack this. Your choices are:

- To use a blog hosting service such as eBloggy (http://www.ebloggy.com) or BlogEasy (http://www.blogeasy.com).

- To host a blog yourself on a server of your own choice.

Both options have their free or paid subsections. The blog hosting services mentioned here are free but there are paid services out there. MSN now offer ‘Spaces’, which are essentially blogs attached to your MSN account and may be of interest to some. Web hosting can also be free or paid but you’ll find it difficult to find a free service that will offer you the features you’ll need to run a blog backend. One place to look is your Internet Service Provider (ISP) that may offer some free web space. This web space often contains as many features as many professional web hosting packages although it offers less space. Blogs tend not to take up a whole lot of room so this shouldn’t be a problem. The advantage of hosting your own blog over using a service is that you have greater control over how it works, how it looks etc. You also don’t have to put up with there being ads on your page (unless you find some free hosting which usually has advertising put at the top of your site). The downside is that it can be a bit more complicated to function.

If you’re going to host your own blog you’ll need to find yourself a blog backend. This is the program that runs on the server and allows you to upload new journal entries while allowing other people to view them. You’ll have to either choose a backend that fits within your web hosting package’s limits or a hosting package that meets the backend’s requirements. The general requirements are PHP and MySQL but you can get some backends that work solely with PHP or even Java. It’s important to make sure that you can change the read/write permissions of the PHP files on your server (using CHMOD or an equivalent, talk to your host—they’ll know what you’re talking about). There’s a nice breakdown of many different beckends and their features and requirements that can be found at, http://www.asymptomatic.net/blogbreakdown.htm. I personally use Pivot because it doesn’t require MySQL and it has RSS distribution, which is nice.

Once you’ve got yourself a hosting package and a backend you need to install the backend. This can get tricky but most of them come with an install program and you should be able to work through it if you follow the instructions that will undoubtedly come with the package. If you run into difficulties your hosting provider’s support team should be happy enough to help you along.

So now you have yourself a blog up and running; it’s time to fill it with content. What you write is up to you. Generally people write about their lives, how they feel, what they think, and similar topics. You can be much more diverse and creative than this though. You could for example post creative writings on your blog, as well as discuss news and current affairs, or anything else that you can imagine. It’s your personal space to write what you like and get it out there for others to read and give their opinions on.

Making people come and read your blog could take some effort. You need to make them aware that it exists and keep it interesting so that they continue coming back. Nothing kills off a readership base like a lack of updates. At first you can start small with your ‘publicity’ by telling friends and family about it. Put a link to your site in your MSN or other messenger program nickname. Put a link in your email signature so that everyone you email sees it. Get your friends interested and they’ll tell others and you’ll probably be able to build up a small community with relative ease. For attracting the broader public you need ways to let the wider community know you are out there. Spend time at other people’s blogs, make it a habit to head over there and read their posts. If it’s appropriate put a link to your site in a comment box or guest book on their site. Visit forums related to blogs (or just forums in general) and become an active member there. As long as you have a link to your site in your signature, people will probably head on over for a look.

You can also submit your blog to lists such as Blogrank.net (http://www.blogrank.net). These are sites dedicated solely to getting people into blog sites, and while it may be hard to climb into the higher ranks, simply having your site listed will probably improve your hit rate. You could also submit your site to as many search engines as possible. Perhaps you could even write yourself an article like this one with your link in the bio field. Beyond this you’re going to have to work out your own methods for publicizing your site. Just think creatively about how and where you can get a link put in and you’ll be fine.

Getting your blog set up and running can be an involving task but the results will be worth it. A final word of warning: Don’t get too engrossed in your blog. You need a life in order to be able to write about your life! As I wrote in a previous article it has been found that blogging can sometimes have a detrimental effect on a person instead of the positive effect that it was designed for. Try not to write only for yourself; it’s a public forum for others to read so try and write entries that will be of some benefit to the wider community as well as to you. Blog safe and have fun!

Not in the mood (or don’t have time) to scrapbook - try working on some scrapbook layout sketches for the events that you still need to put in your scrapbook.

Why?… We’ve found that scrapbook layout sketches help to do two things:

1. It helps you make more efficient use of your time when you actually get around to scrapbooking. If you already know how you want to layout your pictures ahead of time, think of how many pages you could actually get done.

2. It also helps you make more efficient use of your supplies. When you use a scrapbook layout sketch as the basis for your page, you reduce the risk of needing to waste your “good” scrapbook paper to visualize an idea.

Now, it’s best to keep all of your scrapbook layout sketches in one location - no sticky notes allowed! This can be as simple as a spiral notebook or a true sketch pad, but it’s critical that you have something in which to record your ideas for future scrapbook layouts. We often feel like ours is attached to our hips as we are always getting inspired by something new.

TIP: You can also use your sketch book to record color ideas. Do you love the colors in one of your son’s shirts? Did you see an unusual, but great, color combination on a lamp shade? Why not keep a record of the colors for a potential future layout?

It’s not difficult to do… Just cut out a few swatches of cardstock for the colors, glue them to a page in your sketch book and make notes, as appropriate (e.g., what theme it could apply to). It seems simple, but you’ll be surprised at what you don’t remember a few months down the road.

When looking for inspiration for scrapbook layouts, it helps to think outside the box. You will be surprised where you can find ideas for creative scrapbook layouts. Of course, there are countless books out there that will give you layout ideas, but if you’re looking for something a little cheaper, try the weekly sale papers and magazines - our personal favorites. Take some time one day and leaf through some magazines. Don’t look specifically at the items on the pages – look at how the items are laid out on each page and ask yourself the following:

  • Where are the pictures placed?
  • Where is the text…the title?
  • What shapes do they use?
  • Sometimes, you can even get ideas for embellishments.

When sketching your layouts, don’t forget to leave some room for the title. The title doesn’t need to take up a large portion of the layout, but it does deserve some consideration. There is no set of rules on titles, other than they should relate to your pictures. There is even some wiggle-room in that regard, as your title doesn’t have to describe the event (e.g., Merry Christmas or Happy Birthday).

You could describe the sentiments being expressed in the pictures (e.g., Joy, Courage, etc.). You could also use song titles, such as “You are the Sunshine of My Life” for a child’s layout or “Viva, Las Vegas!” to preserve a recent trip to “The Strip.”

While you will usually see a title on the left-hand page of a two-page spread, you can place your title just about anywhere…

  • Horizontally across the page (top, middle or bottom)
  • Vertically down the left- or right-hand side of the page
  • Lower right-hand corner of the page
  • Overlap on the focal picture
  • Incorporate into an embellishment (e.g., tag)
  • If your title is a little long, you may want to consider breaking it up into a title and a sub-title. Also, if it’s not already in your journaling, make sure to include a time element in your title. If the scrapbook layout is about a specific, non-recurring event, include the complete date (month-day-year). If it is a recurring event, such as Thanksgiving, you can just include the year.

    Why is this important?…

Not only is your scrapbook a great way for you to display your pictures, it will become an heirloom with valuable genealogical information.

The bottom line with titles, as it is with scrapbooking, is to be creative. Use stickers, stamps, computer fonts or your own handwriting… whatever makes it your own!

Once you have drawn your sketches, fine-tune your measurements using our money saving tip below.

    Money Saving Tip

Don’t want to spend $60, $80…$100 for a layout template system? Want to make sure that your scrapbook layout sketch makes sense and looks balanced before you cut into your good cardstock and patterned paper? Use cardstock scraps to make your own templates! Not only does it save you money, but it makes scrapbook layout design so much easier. So…don’t throw away that unused cardstock!

You can move the scrapbook layout elements around to see how they will mesh and to help you see whether or not you’ll need to crop (or enlarge) any of your photos. A good base to start with…

  • 2 – 12″ x 12″ cardstock sheets
  • 2 – 2″ x 12″ cardstock strips
  • 2 – 4″ x 12″ cardstock strips
  • 1 – 5″ x 7″ mat (actual size 5.25″ x 7.25″)
  • 1 – 5″ x 7″ block (use for picture)
  • 2 – 4″ x 6″ mats (actual size 4.25″ x 6.25″)
  • 2 – 4″ x 6″ blocks (use for pictures)
  • 3 – 3.5″ x 3.5″ blocks (use for pictures)
  • As you create more scrapbook layout sketches, make additional templates as necessary (e.g., tags or different size pictures).

    Happy Scrapping!

Designed in 1983, this Fender 62 reissue Telecaster is a very different color of cherry grain and lighter than a Les Paul, which he likes.

As a guitarist who dabbles in country, rock and roll and even blues, he appreciates that the Fender 62 reissue Telecaster is a great instrument for all three. When playing country music he uses the pickup of the bridge; for blues the neck pickup. A Roland processor and two twins operating in stereo is how he started out using his Fender 62 Telecaster, but lately he employs an Ibanez compressor with a Fender Hot Rod, 40 watt, and straight out of the amplifier.

The only negative thing this experienced guitarist has to say about his classic Fender 62 is that the factory vintage tuners make it difficult to change strings very quickly.

The 62 reissue Telecaster earned a ten (out of 10) for reliability and durability from this reviewer. He has never had to call on customer service for any repair or support.

This accomplished musician calls his Fender 62 Telecaster the best musical investment he has ever made.

Another guitarist, who has owned his 62 reissue Telecaster for twenty years, said the same thing about reliability. He has just never had a problem with it and is interested in finding out just how long it’s going to last. While he says it’s the Jeep and not the Ferrari of guitars he truly loves the sound and action of this instrument. One negative note from this reviewer - the strings break often.
